Philosophy
The meaning woven within
Parang means 'cliff'. Its unbroken diagonal lines represent the continuous flow of life, persistence against the tides, and the moral duty of a leader to never surrender. Forbidden to commoners under the Mataram court.
History
Origins & journey
Created by Sultan Agung of Mataram while meditating on the southern coast, watching waves crash against cliffs. The motif spread across Javanese royal courts and is now a UNESCO-recognized intangible heritage.
