The meaning woven within
Lasem is famous for its 'abang getih pithik' (chicken-blood red), a hue impossible to replicate elsewhere. It marks the coastal meeting of Chinese settlers and Javanese artisans — a living dialogue in dye.
History
Origins & journey
Lasem became a major batik port in the 15th century when Admiral Cheng Ho's fleets settled here. Today the workshops, run by Peranakan families for generations, remain among Indonesia's most treasured.
